4×4 Does not means it can float

One of my favorites cars is the Jeep, my brother and I really like like jeeps because they look very cool specially if they are soft tops, but sometimes he thinks he can drive them anywhere including rivers, guess next time I let him drive the jeep I’ll take the life vest with me. I think he wanted to go surfing really bad that he took a shortcut to the beach to save some time, unfortunately I don’t think that huge river would do any good to the jeep’s motor, and guess what? I now know who to blame when the motor starts leaking oil mixed with water.

Does this USB thingie makes the database not suck?

I was checking my emails trying to delete all the spam that my spam filter does not get and I found an email that looks to be from the makers of dBase Plus which  is a program to interface with databases or something like that. The interesting thing is that they wore doing a combo of dBASE plus and the USB Flexi Light, but what is unclear to me is how this Flexi Light is going to help me creating database applications? and this USB thingie looks more like a probe of some kind. what are you supposed to do with it? plug it in the commuters and then stick it somewhere?  maybe try Flexi lighting?

How about I just want to buy your database product…. and can I get fries with that? you can keep the USB probe.

New PC + Windows Vista = Not Enough Memory?

That’s right I just got myself a new computer and put Windows vista on it but it seems that this new operating system grabs tons of memory from my system. From what I have read on Internet articles windows vista is a memory hungry operating system, apparently it has a fancy mechanism (superfetch) that pre-loads applications that you used the most in memory so they are ready when you need them, it also uses memory for cache. Apparently it uses so much memory than the previews version of windows that they have designed a cool mechanism to use your USB thumb drive to extend the storage where windows puts its cache, It won’t use your USB key chain as RAM but it will use it to store cache  and increase the read speed when reading from cache that is in the USB thumb drive, as opposed to reading it from the hard drive. For what I’ve heard is a good idea to use use a ratio of 1:1 or 1:2 for RAM to USB thumb drive memory, so if you have a computer with 2 Gigabytes of memory, its recommended to use USB thumb drive of 2 or 4 Gigabytes.

  My computer has 4 Gigabytes of ram and right now I am using 40% of it. usually when the computer is idle it takes at least 25% (1GB) all the time as you can see from the picture below. So if you are planning to go with vista and want to have the best user experience possible, remember this, get tons of memory for  your new computer.

Beers for every occasion and everybody

Well it seems this days beer is not just about drinking beer its about refining your taste, and coming to a realization that really not all beers taste the same, they might share some of the bitter taste to it, but all beers are different and people who really know they beers can tell you what they like and what they don’t like and which ones are the better ones depending on what you like. I personally don’t drink beer that much but its always fun to checkout some of the local breweries and see what all the hype is about, the cool thing about beer is that it brings people together… well most of the time haha.

For all of you beer lovers out there I have a compilations of links just for you:

Did I miss anything ?

Amazing Street Drums

Well as it turns out when I was younger I used to be a band nerd and yes I went to band camp, to play the drums, it was very fun specially when we play really fast and energetic drum rhythms, which we use to call comparsa. well those wore the good old times, I just found out about these street drummers and they play the drums in a very synchronized and energetic way that is just totally contagious, they are so good it makes me want to play the drums again, but I should leave that to the pros.

Check them out in the video, they are the best street drummer I’ve ever seen and they don’t even use real drums.

Yoda: The SQL Nerd

Today at work, I was trying to find information about Global Unique Identifiers or GUID’s which is a feature of Microsoft SQL Server, while surfing the Internet for information, I came across a forum with information on the subject, however this particular site got my attention because among all the people posting questions and answers I saw someone that either is very funny in a clever way or is a TOTAL NERD.

Basically people wore debating the best way to obtain a GUID, and a nerdy guy had this answer:

<Yoda>

Use the Search page you must. Find the answer you will.

Cursors, path to the Dark Side they are. Avoid them, you must.

Use Order By NewID() to get a random record you will.

</Yoda>

You already might have noticed the  < > brackets before and after the clever (or nerdy) lines, this officially makes the person a nerd because that is from a computer markup called XML. All I have to say is:

<Jose> Keep talking like this, a nerd  you are. </Jose>

You guys have any other ideas, since I am not very good when it comes to talking like Yoda?

Sick as a Dog (or so it felt)

It’s been a while since I last posted anything to my blog, and there has been a very good reason for that, and that is: I’ve been sick.  It was insane, after going for about 3 years straight in a row without feeling any kind of sickness I got sick pretty bad for the first time since the last time I had fever for about 1 day. Firs it started with an very nasty bacterial infection, that gave me alot of fever and pain, I had to go to the ER (Emergency Room) It lasted like 5 days, then I got better and just as I was feeling better, my immune system was a little weak and I got hit with the allergies, which is pretty weird to me because I never suffer from allergies but since the doctor said it was the peak of allergy season when all the flowers start blooming and letting the pollen out then it made sense.  It was the first time I felt how horrible it is to have your sinus all congested pretty bad for about 3 days in a row.

Fortunately I now feel way better and feel 100% healthier, but it was not fun to be sick and taking like 100 medications every day, I was taking tons medicine: Excedrin, Sudafed, Tylenol, Theraflu, Ibuprofen, Afrin and even prescription drugs like Zyrtec and antibiotics.

Well right now It’s all over, now I have to catch up with all the cool post I have in mind for my blog, so expect to see pretty cool content around here.
