More of my favorite beach

A few more pictures of my new favorite beach. In case you are wondering why I am wearing a long sleeve rash guard its because of the convenience of not having to re-apply sunscreen in my arms, not to mention it saves me time of having to get out of the water to put sunscreen in my arms. Its definitely more practical that way I just put my rash guard on and not worry a applying sunscreen on my arms, shoulders, chest, belly, back, etc… you get the picture.

The only thing I do is apply plenty of sunscreen on my face, and legs, and use plenty of chap stick and I am ready to go.

Don’t forget to put plenty of wax on the board otherwise it will be impossible to get a good grip on the wet fiberglass surface

Chilling and waiting for more waves

SANY0260

The camera lens got a few drops of water but for some reason I like this picture, perhaps its because of the beautiful colors?

SANY0250

Where did everybody go?

SANY0251

Not much shade around here, luckily there was plenty of waves to keep me busy.

Somewhere in paradise

There is always something new I discover everyday, this particular day my brothers and I went to this semi remote beach which I’ve heard of a few times but because of how far and somewhat tricky access to the beach I’ve never been there, however this time we decided to check it out and bring our surfboards hopping we can get a few waves, and we wore in for a big surprise. The beach access was OK we had to "park" the car because the road ended at the mouth of a small river that goes into the beach, then we walked across the river and into the beach, the sand was awesome, white and very fine, and the beach looked like a normal beach, there was nobody there and the place was so beautiful once we got in the water and pass the braking of the waves it was heaven: the water was crystal clear, super warm and the waves wore a little glassy, and the untouched beauty of the surroundings felt so natural that this beach is now my favorite beach probably because of the 100% natural beauty, simple a place I would describe as paradise.

Paradise

My brother was enjoying this beautiful day, you can see how clear the water gets that you can see some of his white shorts, and to the left some of the rain that the wind makes when the waves are about to close.

Paradise

This picture gives you an idea of why this place feels like paradise, it looks untouched by humans, no houses, only natural tropical dry forest, and the blue color of the water goes pretty good with the green of the trees. I like this particular picture because you can clearly see the water that the wind splashes back to us that it sometimes it feels like rain and makes some rainbows for a few seconds.

paradise

Looks like this wave was not big enough for him.

paradise

How cool is this, no houses, hotels or people!!

paradise

One thing this picture is missing is people .. NOT !!!

paradise surfing

Small wave but fun anyway.

Driving In Costa Rica: Part 1

I’ve been meaning to write and put some pictures up about some of the roads here in Costa Rica, more specifically in Guanacaste which is a rural area here in Costa Rica. Costa Rica have lots of paved roads, some of this "roads" are paved and therefore anyone with any car can travel to where these roads go, however there are many places that had never had been paved and are usually somewhat maintained yearly,  most of this unpaved roads lead to really cool places less traveled by people because only 4×4 vehicles can travel there, this is mainly because a car with enough ground clearance is needed to drive huge pot holes that are usually found on these roads, and more important because sometimes there are no bridges on the road and the car needs to cross these rivers, which usually are OK for a 4×4, however during the winter months, this places are unreachable because the rivers grow really high even for a 4×4, that makes lots of places only accessible during the summer months when the water level in the rivers is low.

This is the how the typical road roads looks like, in this one we just crossed a river.

SANY0070

After driving for a while we found this unmarked road that took us to this awesome beach called barrigona beach, however the road stops right at a small river moth that we had to cross by foot before reaching the actual beach.

We drove to the end of this particular beach which was only accessible because we drove right on the sand at low tide.

SANY0175

Sometime you can see pot holes filled with water, which I am not sure where it came from, since its supposed to be summer, probably from minor summer rains, in this picture we got lucky and it was easy to drive around the water.

SANY0179

Sometimes the water dries up a bit and the only thing left a huge mud stir that would probably trap a car that does not have four wheel drive.

SANY0178

As week kept driving, the pot holes filled with water became bigger and bigger.

SANY0181

Sometimes you can’t escape driving the car right into a big puddle of mud.

SANY0182

Most of the time is best to slow down and see what is the best approach to take: right, left, middle, both, none?

SANY0185

No where to go but straight into the unknown dirty water in the middle of what we believe is the road.

SANY0186

Hopefully there are no big rocks or log sticking up hiding in the water !!

image

Hope the car does not get too dirty.

SANY0188

Is it time to call triple A towing service yet?

SANY0190

I would call that a "normal" obstacle in the road.

The right place with the wrong car

On our way back from the beach where we saw the turtle we had to cross one of the many river we usually cross to get to places that are less traveled by people. Since some of this rivers don’t have bridges my brothers and I consider this rivers as natural strainer for people (tourists and locals) who perhaps don’t have the right vehicle to get to this places. Fortunately we have a few 4×4 cars that can travel these roads, but sometimes, specially during holidays you can find people who are not used to this kind of things and they would go to this kind of places with the wrong car and they get stuck in the natural strainer.

SANY0116

This car got really stuck in this river we try to push it but unfortunately the clutch was spinning.

SANY0120

My brother drove to the other side of the river to try and help pull the car out of the river

SANY0125

Good luck trying to get this car out of this river

Finally a turtle !!

A while back I wrote about a particular trip to this beach that was supposed to be very famous for turtles, but when since it was not turtle season, we had no luck, until yesterday when finally we saw one turtle come out of the ocean to lay eggs and go back into the ocean, it was pretty cool seeing the turtle specially because they don’t come out very often this time of the year.
